The Red Deer Justice Centre is a regional based court delivering services of the Court of the Queen’s Bench of Alberta and the Provincial Court. The facility will replace the existing provincial courthouse located nearby, that was constructed in the 1980’s, due to an aging facility, technological limitations, and population growth in the region. Located downtown Red Deer, the Justice Centre will serve as a hub for legal and justice-related services, including courtrooms, mediation and arbitration rooms, legal aid offices, and administrative offices.
The Red Deer Justice Centre will include nine-storeys above grade, two-storeys below grade and will accommodate up to 12 courtrooms, with room for a future expansion to 16 courtrooms. The building will also include drug treatment court and resolution services to provide dispute outcomes, civil and family mediation, arbitration, and other alternatives to court.
The facility is being constructed to meet the highest standards of sustainability with energy-efficient materials and systems and is targeting LEED Silver certification. The building will also be designed to maximize natural light and minimize energy consumption.
The Red Deer Justice Centre will be an important asset to the community and surrounding areas, promoting access to justice, public safety and contributing to the economic development of the region.
