The Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre (CPSRC) is a 16,600 square meter recreational facility located in the heart of Coronation Park, targeting LEED Silver certification. Clark Builders is self-performing several scopes of work, including concrete framework and architectural cladding.
Upon completion, the facility will serve the recreational needs of the surrounding community with a range of amenities, including a velodrome indoor cycling track, walking/running track, fitness centre, bouldering wall, gymnasiums, multi-purpose rooms, studios, indoor play space, and more. The CPSRC will also serve as a hub for some of Edmonton’s elite athletes. As partners in the development of the facility, the Argyll Velodrome Association and World Triathlon Series Edmonton will have offices in the centre, making use of the facility to support the long-term growth of their sports in Edmonton.
Targeting Category Two designation from the world’s governing body of cycling, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), CPSRC will be eligible to host World Cups, Continental Championships, Junior World Championships, and other national and international cycling events. With indoor seating for approximately 750 people, spectators will get to join in the action for world-class events year round.
Reflecting the unique amenities within this landmark facility, the façade features a roofline that mimics a twisting ribbon encircling the building. Large exterior retaining walls between landscaped berms will frame the entrances to the building, integrating it into the mature landscape of the surrounding park.
An above-ground link will connect the Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre with the architecturally award-winning Peter Hemingway Fitness and Leisure Centre.
The Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre is an investment in sport and recreation that will provide many exciting opportunities, benefiting the community for generations.
