Clark Builders completed the Powell Canada project in two phases. Phase I included a switchgear and prefabricated electrical room manufacturer, a two-storey office, and a heavy-duty shop complex situated on 20 acres. The office component included enhanced natural lighting as well as a high bay shop and a low bay shop with cranes, and a sandblasting and painting facility. The low bay shop was required to have a 160 tonne indoor lifting capacity. To accomplish this, six overhead gantry cranes were installed to allow objects to maneuvre into sequencing. Two of the cranes have an 80 tonne capacity, two have a 40 tonne capacity, and two have a 20 tonne capacity.
Phase I also included addressing future expansion needs, including 6,700 square feet of asphalt pavement and 17,650 square feet of heavy-duty granular pavement and laydown area. A storm retention pond was built to address the flow restrictions of the existing services.
Phase II included a major shop expansion to the west of Phase I, consisting of a pre-engineered Butler structure complete with heavy cranes and thick reinforced concrete industrial floor slabs. A large manufacturing facility with a two-level office space of approximately 16,000 square foot per level was also part of this phase. New site grading was also completed to maximize additional parking and lay-down areas with fully developed heavy-duty gravel and asphalt yard upon geo-grid and geo-textile.
