Esker Art Gallery

Calgary, Alberta

Project Description

The Esker Gallery, situated on the Atlantic Avenue Art Block in Calgary's trendy Inglewood district, is a contemporary art gallery that manifested the owner's vision of addressing the need for more contemporary art spaces in Calgary and blending into Inglewood's history and community. The Esker Foundation’s goal was to provide office space that was appealing to local artists, and in turn use the revenue received to provide a gallery to the public that is free of charge. It is one of the only galleries in Calgary that achieves museum-quality environmental standards and has attained LEED Silver certification for sustainable design.

The gallery serves as a community hub that empowers the public to immerse themselves in curated art exhibits, while also supporting local artists by providing them with a world-class stage to showcase their work. Flexibility was incorporated into the displays with moveable walls to adapt to the various exhibits and mediums incorporated. A notable unique element is the 3-D ‘nest’ boardroom that can be seen from the street catching the eyes of onlookers. Clark Builders completed the Gallery's construction in 2012, and it is now one of Calgary's most prominent landmarks. The Esker Gallery's construction was a remarkable feat that involved cutting-edge technology and skilled labour, resulting in a stunning building that seamlessly blends with the surrounding environment.
